Moving funds from the Web3 Wallet back to the exchange comes down to two key steps: pick the right chain and paste the right address.

Plenty of people open a Binance Web3 Wallet, claim an airdrop or try a few on-chain things, then get stuck at the same spot: the coins are in, but "how do I turn this back into cash or USDT I can actually understand?" The usual answer is — first move the on-chain coins back to your exchange spot account, sell them there, and run through the cash-out flow. This "moving back" trip is really the same road you took to "move out," just walked in reverse — it's only that the first time you do it, you're nervous about picking the wrong chain or pasting the wrong address. This guide takes each step apart and lays it out clearly.

Why you'd move coins back to the exchange

Let's be clear on the division of labour between these two places first. The Binance Web3 Wallet is an on-chain self-custody wallet — you use it to claim airdrops and interact with decentralized applications, but it isn't built to "sell into cash and pull it back to your bank." The side that can actually turn coins into fiat, run a C2C trade, or do a bank withdrawal is the account on the exchange. So the common needs are these:

  • You picked up a token on-chain and want to cash it out — you have to move it back to spot first and sell it into USDT or cash.
  • You want to park assets back in the exchange's custody and step away from the chain for now, to lighten the custody burden.
  • You want to use a feature only the exchange has (limit-order trading, savings products), which also needs the coins sitting in your exchange account.

Before you start: the chain and the coin have to match

This is the single most important idea in the whole guide. An on-chain transfer has two things that absolutely have to line up — get one wrong and the money can become unrecoverable:

  • The coin matches: withdraw whichever coin you actually hold in the wallet (USDT, ETH, BNB…), and don't take coin A's address to receive coin B.
  • The chain (network) matches: the same coin often lives on several chains at once — USDT exists on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Tron, with different address formats that don't talk to each other. Whichever chain you withdraw from, the exchange's receiving side has to be set to the same chain.

The right way to do it: on the exchange, first tap "Deposit" for a given coin — it'll have you choose a network, and once you do, it gives you a deposit address for that chain. When you withdraw from your Web3 Wallet, the chain you pick has to match the chain of that deposit address exactly. Remember it in one line: on the exchange, first pick "which coin to receive and which chain to use," get the address, then withdraw from the Web3 Wallet on that same chain. Doing it in the reverse order is what trips people up most.

The actual steps to withdraw to spot

Translated into actual taps, it's roughly these steps. The exact on-screen wording shifts as Binance updates its app, so go by what your own app shows at the time:

  1. Get the deposit address on the exchange first. Go to the Binance spot side, find "Deposit" for the coin you want to receive, choose the network (chain), and it gives you a deposit address (possibly with a QR code to scan).
  2. Copy the address, and check it once. Copy-paste carries a risk (the clipboard hijacker, covered below), so after pasting, check the start and end character by character; if you're worried about a wrong paste, run it through our address checker first to see whether the format is right.
  3. Go back to the Web3 Wallet and start the transfer. In the wallet, pick the coin to send out, choose the same chain as a moment ago, paste the exchange's address into the recipient field, and enter the amount.
  4. Confirm all three: chain, address, amount. Before sending, look once more — that the chain, the first and last few characters of the address, and the amount are all what you intended.
  5. Send and pay gas. An on-chain transfer costs a network fee (gas, the fee for getting your action recorded on-chain), paid in that chain's native token, and the wallet will tell you how much to keep on hand.
  6. Wait for arrival. After sending, check the "deposit history" on the exchange spot side and wait for it to show as arrived and available to use.

What gas is, and why a transfer gets stuck

Gas is the "toll" for an on-chain transfer. Every on-chain action needs validators to package it up onto the chain for you, and you pay a little of that chain's native token as the reward. The key points:

  • Gas is paid in the native token, not in the coin you're moving. On Ethereum you need a little ETH, on BNB Smart Chain a little BNB, on Tron a little TRX. If you're short on that chain's native coin, the transfer can't go out.
  • Gas varies a lot between chains. Ethereum mainnet runs noticeably pricier when it's congested, while BNB Smart Chain and Tron are usually much cheaper. That's why beginners moving a small amount often prefer the cheaper chain (as long as the exchange supports receiving on it too).
  • When the network is busy, it gets pricier and slower. Gas floats with how congested the chain is at the moment.

The thing beginners get stuck on most is "I clearly have USDT, so why won't it move?" — usually because there's no native coin on that chain to pay gas. Editor's test

The first thing that tripped us up was hitting "send" and having it refuse to go out. We took a small amount of USDT to move from the Web3 Wallet back to spot, but that chain only had loose change of its native coin left, and the wallet stopped us outright with a "not enough balance to pay gas" warning; only after topping up a bit of the native token did it send cleanly. Once it was out, we pasted the transaction hash into a block explorer to track it, watched it flip from "pending" to "confirmed," and a few minutes later the spot side showed it arrived. The one thing we most want to flag after that round trip: before you send, confirm "is there native coin on this chain to pay gas," or you'll end up like us, stuck at the send step with nowhere to go.

How long arrival takes

Arrival time hinges on two things: how fast the chain itself produces a block, plus how many confirmations the exchange requires. Here's a protocol-level sense of it first.

  • Bitcoin produces a block roughly every 10 minutes.
  • Ethereum runs a slot roughly every 12 seconds.
  • Tron produces blocks fast, roughly one every few seconds.

But "confirmed on-chain" isn't the same as "the exchange lets you use it." For safety, the exchange usually waits for a certain number of confirmations before it counts; the number needed varies by coin and chain, so go by what the Binance deposit page shows at the time. So the status looks roughly like: sent → confirming on-chain → exchange accumulating confirmations → arrived and available. A fast chain finishes within a few minutes; congestion makes it slower. If it hasn't arrived, don't panic — take the transaction hash to a block explorer first and check whether it's already on-chain and just waiting on confirmations.

What happens if you get it wrong, and how to avoid it

The brutal part of an on-chain transfer is this: once it's sent, you can't claw it back, and there's no support line to reverse it. Here are the most common ways it goes wrong, so you know what to watch for.
